The Most Shocking Promposal Ever!

SimpleTux02_Logo_Horizontal (1)
Los Angeles, CA. April 13, 2015 – It’s that time of year again, when high school boys muster up the courage to ask their dream date to Prom for a night filled with trepidation and excitement. Yes, millions of boys across the country will find themselves in a super awkward situation, standing alone helplessly, while an older gentleman fumbles around their crotch area, trying to quickly measure their inseam for what can only be explained as a very embarrassing and nightmarish experience that many seasoned men refer to as tux rental hell.

Enter SimpleTux, an online tuxedo rental company, and its 2015 West Coast Prom Tour, where a team of reps comes to your school with a mobile 3D body scanner that uses Microsoft’s non-invasive Kinect technology to collect all the necessary measurements in under 30 seconds without laying a hand on you. Did I mention they come to your school? It’s the first tux rental company to fully revolutionize the entire user experience, from the way measurements are taken to the way the tux is delivered to your door a full 5 days before your event. This ensures a quality fit and a professionally styled tuxedo in 30 minutes whereas the traditional method takes north of 3 hours (a minimum of 3 trips to the shop). Mind officially blown.

The 2015 West Coast Prom Tour runs from April 13th through May 30th and will visit a select number of its 150 partnering high schools along the west coast (schedule to be released shortly). Equipped with velvet ropes, a lounge area and an on site stylist, SimpleTux is revamping the entire rental experience from A-Z. With complete rental packages starting at $105, free delivery, complimentary concierge and a “cash for schools” program, this is truly a win-win for everyone involved.

SimpleTux consists of three friends from middle school and a burnt out tech entrepreneur turned carpenter. Our story is not like that of your typical startup. They are all in our mid-30s, mostly married, half with families. Yet, they decided to take up the challenge of updating a very dated industry because they felt like it needed to be done. Since its 2013 inception SimpleTux has continued to deliver on its promise to save customers time and money while looking good and feeling great.

Dwyane Wade is pretty awesome.

We know Dwyane Wade best as an incredibly talented basketball player who plays for the Miami Heat. But, what he just did did makes him way cooler than we thought he already was.

Dwyane took it upon himself to hook up 15 Florida foster kids from the Guardian ad Litem (a florida foster program from abused, neglected, and abandoned children) with new gear for prom.

Dwyane partnered with Hublot Watches to give the high school kids custom tailored suits and flashy watches. Wade stressed the importance of looking professional. He is also providing the services of his personal stylist and tailor for prom night as a reward for focusing on their academics.

It’s great for celebrities and talented people in the spotlight to give back to those in need and who strive for better lives. Dwyane Wade showed this by helping out these kids get a jumpstart on their new outlook on life. Sure he have them $10,000 outfits, but its not about how much money it costs or where you got it from, it matters how you present yourself.

It is important to praise those who are doing well academically and show them they are doing a good job, and to keep it up. Dwyane Wade honestly cares about those who are in need because he was one of them. He strives everyday to become a better persons, and with a role model like that, you can do anything! #boss

Dear Veterans: Thank you!

It takes courage for a soldier to risk life and limb for his country. The least we can do is to honor these heroes. That is the basis of the Veterans Day celebration.

In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”(US Department of Veteran Affairs).

To gain a broader knowledge of veterans in our country, here are some statistics stated by
-9.2 million veterans are over the age of 65.
-1.9 million veterans are under the age of 35.
-1.8 million veterans are women.
-7.8 million veterans served during the Vietnam War era (1964-1975), which represents 33% of all living veterans.
-5.2 million veterans served during the Gulf War (representing service from Aug. 2, 1990, to present).
-2.6 million veterans served during World War II (1941-1945).
-2.8 million veterans served during the Korean War (1950-1953).
-6 million veterans served in peacetime.
-As of 2008, 2.9 million veterans received compensation for service-connected disabilities.

Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

George Orwell once said: “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf”, so when you see a veteran or know of someone who has served and helped this country, say thank you. their work is greatly appreciated.

Rest In Peace Mr. De La Renta,

The loss of a true icon was brought to our attention, Monday October 20, 2014 as 82-year-old Oscar De La Renta passed away.

His label has become synonymous with luxury, sophistication and style and is one of the most desired labels for men and women all over the world. Oscar De La Renta’s men’s collection is very professional and stylish, consisting primarily of suits, jackets, dress shirts, ties and dress pants. Most of Oscar De La Renta’s designs are tailored for a perfect fit and are designed to enhance the body shapes of men. Perfectly cut for optimum satisfaction.

Oscar also designed wedding dresses so his clients would fall in love again, with the dress. His dedication to luxury and glamour, De La Renta aspired to make women feel beautiful.

During his long career, Mr. de la Renta was among the few designers who knew the difference between the runway and fashion.

“Never, ever confuse what happens on a runway with fashion,” Mr. de la Renta once said. “A runway is spectacle. It’s only fashion when a woman puts it on. Being well dressed hasn’t much to do with having good clothes. It’s a question of good balance and good common sense” (

Coming Home to Homecoming

Coming Home to Homecoming

It’s that time of year again. Nostalgia is in the air and homecoming is here, a time to celebrate your school and shared experiences. It is also a time when alumni from high schools and colleges return to their alma maters from around the world to reconnect with people, places and traditions. More than just a football game, the modern homecoming has evolved into a week of celebrations ranging from tailgate parties and bonfires to formal dances and the coronation of a homecoming court. A welcoming back of sorts for many, Homecoming is the perfect time to rediscover your roots, breathe in the cool crisp autumn air and revel in the moment. Today you are young, you are invincible and the world is at your fingertips.

History of Homecoming

The NCAA credits the University of Missouri with the first homecoming event. In 1911 Missouri’s Athletic Director Chester Brewer invited alumni to “come home” for the annual game against the University of Kansas. The event drew over 10,000 alumni and fans for a weekend of speeches, rallies, dances and a parade, with the big game as the weekend’s center point.

There are a ton of activities that center around homecoming, and they vary from school to school. The celebrations generally start within the school on Monday and last all the way through the weekend when the alumni show up. Many schools star their week off with a spirit week, having each day host another activity. For example, Monday could be “crazy hair day”, Tuesday will be “wear school colors”, and so on. The week normally ends with the schools biggest pep rally right before the game to get everyone even more enthused for the weekends activities.

After the big game, is when everyone celebrates the win (hopefully), by going to the dance and being with all your friends and peers. And isn’t that what life is about? Being with friends, enjoying good times and creating memories that will last a lifetime?

Fall Is Upon Us.

Fall Is Upon Us.

fall love

Fall Is Upon Us. A short story.

Just like that, the summer is about to end and we are entering the fall season. But hey, it’s not all bad. With the fall comes room for opportunity. A chance for us to get up from the couch, dust the sand off our toes and whip ourselves back into productive shape. A time to innovate, accelerate and clean our plates. Ahem, of course I’m referring to Thanksgiving. Mmmmm…turkey.

Back to the point. Fall means for many the start of a new chapter. Perhaps a new job or for many prepubescent teenagers out there, a new school year. Filled with excitement, trepidation and of course school dances. School dances, remember those? They provided a full circle of emotion, didn’t they? From the nervousness of asking a date or hoping to be asked, to the actual planning and coordinating, to the day of and dare I say…first kiss? That whirlwind of crazy feelings leads to so many possibilities.

And that first kiss…well for some, may have turned into their last kiss. I know it’s almost passe to even bring up the idea of highschool sweethearts nowadays, but hey…it could happen? Couldn’t it?

And for those highschool sweethearts, maybe this fall is a new chapter in your wonderful lives together as you embark on the holiest of matrimonies. I’m talking about wedding, put-a-ring-on-it, exchange your vows, walk down the aisle type ‘ish.

Ahhh…the fall. There is something definitively beautiful about the change of seasons. I don’t mean hailstorms, natural disasters and all that. But the changing color of the leaves, the first sprinkle of snow, the hot cocoa by the fireplace…it breathes romance. It breathes crisp, fresh…a new start.

So, as you continue on through your life and its many milestones…I just want to say enjoy. Take a step back, take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. Enjoy the air in your lungs. Enjoy the company you are with, the dance you are dancing, the laugh you are laughing or simply the gaze of a beautiful human being.

And most importantly, enjoy the tux you are wearing, the way it makes you feel in that very instant as you enjoy the most memorable night of your life.

Fall is upon us…and isn’t it simply mesmerizing?

Why Rent a Tuxedo?

Why Rent a Tuxedo?

Why rent a tuxedo? Why not just buy?

Good question.

To be honest, we get asked that question a lot. And our answer is simple, it really just depends on your circumstances.

Renting generally costs upwards of $100. Why spend that if you can purchase a tux for a few hundred more? Well, let’s see…

First of all, a quality tuxedo…on sale…for a steep discount runs you at the very least $300-400. So what does this include? A jacket and pants. So…don’t you need a nice shirt? A bow tie? Shoes? Cuff links? Maybe a vest? A pocket square? Well, yeah…if you want a complete outfit. Which now takes you a few hundred higher…and all of a sudden you are looking at a cost of $700-800 out the door for a complete outfit. Got a thousand plus bucks to spend every few years? Then go ahead and buy.

The average male will rent a tux maybe 4 times by the age of 40. It’s one of those things that happens so sporadically and infrequently in our lives, but when it does it’s for something important.

Obviously there are those that will never rent and those that are just uber popular and end up the best man at a dozen plus weddings. If you are the ladder, then more than likely you are shit out of luck. You probably have no say in what you need to be wearing and will ultimately succumb to renting a ton of times, period. For the average male, you typically rent for your Prom (17 years old), your wedding (30 years old) and another two times as part of a friend or family’s wedding party (late 20’s-early 40’s). Say you rent from us at SimpleTux…our average price is $150 for a full package. Multiply that by 4 and you get $600. Still cheaper than the $700-800.

Now, let’s also look at the shelf life of a purchased tux. Generally a good tux will fit you and stay in fashion around 3-4 years. I know plenty of people that push the envelope and try to keep a high school tux they purchased for prom and wear it at their next formal event a few years later. Guess what? You look like you are still at Prom except everything’s tighter. And that snazzy bow tie you bought back in ’05? It belongs back in 2005. That said, a rental company is annually changing inventory to keep up with fashion trends and seasonal colors. Let me reiterate, SimpleTux is annually changing inventory and adjusting styles for seasonal colors. So no matter if you rent for your Prom now and then your wedding 15 years later, you will have something that is appropriate to the current trend without compromising fashion or fit.

That said, yes you can buy a tux. Try to wear it on repeat for the next 10 years to recoup your ROI. But more than likely you will still need to rent, as weddings are always varying in themes, color and styles…year over year. Not to mention your body weight is constantly changing, damn those fad diets. And that Armani tux you bought back in ’05 isn’t going to fit no matter how long you spend in the steam room. I’m sorry, it’s just a fact. Year after year people try to squeeze into that old tuxedo…ahem…”Father of the Bride” comes to mind. Just to save a few bucks? C’mon man!

Be smart, look at the big picture. Rent don’t buy. And don’t take our word for it, do the math. We’ll be here when you come to your senses.

Finally A Better Way To Rent A Tuxedo…

I got married to the love of my life 3 years ago. A woman that I met on an MTV Dating Show back in 2003. Don’t believe me? There’s a clip at the bottom of the page from our first date…and our first kiss.

You could say we march to the beat of our own drum. An inter-racial, entrepreneurial couple before it became en vogue. My wife owns and operates a Beverly Hills hair extension salon and I worked for a long time in entertainment as a manager and producer. Today, I am a co-founder of an online tux rental company called SimpleTux that I started with 2 of my best friends of over 20 years.

That last part, about co-founding a startup. That’s why I’m writing you. See, on my wedding day everything seemed perfect. You ride on this cloud of emotions and its just a beautiful day. However, in hindsight – when I look at my wedding pictures, there is one thing that has always nagged me. I’ll premise this first by saying that I consider myself a fairly fashionable guy. That said, I hate – ok maybe not hate – but am genuinely annoyed at the tux I wore for my wedding. And apparently, I’m not the only one. There are forums, message boards, yelp reviews just reaming the tux rental business. From poorly fitted tuxes, lack of fashion direction to its non-existent customer service, there is an endless amount of negative commentary. And for a service that is a part of the most important day of your life, it just boggles my mind.

So, when my friends came to me with this idea of starting a tux rental business – I thought long and hard about what we could possibly contribute to this business. (Note: Both of my buddies are tech geeks. One is the CEO of a digital agency and the other worked in Silicon Valley for fancy companies like Cisco and Seagate) The obvious answer was technology – this industry was ripe for technological disruption to resolve inefficiencies as well as fitting and customer service issues. But I needed more than that. I needed to connect personally. So I asked myself, where did I go wrong when I rented my tux? And the answer was, “I rented a tux for my wedding because that’s what I thought I was supposed to do but I had no idea how to do it.” The inherent issue is that the tux rental process is something that occurs so infrequently in your life that you really are unsure of what to do. Yet every time you use this service, it is for a very important day in your life. So to me, the issue really was a lack of fashion guidance and attention to fit and body shape. The solution was providing a rental service that personalized the process so that someone feels that they are not only getting a tux but a personal stylist to help hand hold them. That plus favorable price points and convenience. Which is why we decided to go full steam ahead and become the heroes of the tux rental industry.

Fast forward to almost a year later and we’ve now fully launched our site ( We also signed exclusive “cash for schools” partnerships with local high schools such as Harvard Westlake, Palos Verdes Peninsula and Redondo Union for Prom and seen a 70% conversion rate. Additionally, we’ve fulfilled orders throughout the United States for customers ranging from ages 16-40 attending a wide range events, from Proms to a Political Gala in Washington D.C. to awards ceremonies and of course weddings. Our little idea is taking off. We’ve seen proof of concept and now are working on a nationwide campaign with Gilt City in July.

The reason why I’m writing you now is because need a little help with our movement. We need to let others know that there is a better alternative, there isn’t a need to settle anymore. After all…
